6 Week Training Plan - Week 6

Driffield Triathlon Beginners 6 Week Training Programme

This programme has been compiled by a British Triathlon Level 3 coach, and is intended to help a complete novice of reasonable fitness to achieve their goal of completing a Sprint Distance Triathlon.

WEEK SIX

This is it, race week.
Re read your race information pack and make sure you have everything you will need.
Training this week is quite light, so as to save energy for the big day.

Swim
Two swims this week. The first swim should start with a 10 minute warm up and then continue with 4 x 100m at race pace followed by 4 x 50m at faster than race pace. Take 45-60 seconds rest after each swim.
The second swim of this week should be of race distance 400m (16 lengths) and at race pace, just to re-establish that race pace feel.

Cycle
Just one short 30 minute ride this week, done at race pace, with 3 faster paced 30 second efforts at some point in the ride.

Run
Again just one short run this week. 15-20 minutes at race pace with 2-3 faster paced 20 second efforts at some point in the run.

Complete each session on a different day. Do not train on Saturday.

On race day arrive at least 1 hour before your start time. Set out your kit and check that your bike is in the correct gear you will use to start on. Arrive on poolside in good time.
When the race starts, keep focused, remember what your training has taught you about your body. Pace yourself all the way to the finish line.

AND ABOVE ALL ENJOY THE EXPERIENCE. YOU MAY DO OTHER TRIATHLONS, BUT YOU WILL NEVER AGAIN DO YOUR FIRST TRIATHLON.

Good Luck. You can do it. You can become a Triathlete.
